Washington DC - arrival in style
Ah... vacation at last! October is the month when Jim can take a week away from the store. This is our annual vacation; this year to Washington DC.
We flew nonstop on JetBlue from Oakland to Dulles airport. We arrived, with carry-on luggage only, and headed to get a taxi. On the way, a driver mumbled "need a ride?" and we stopped to negotiate a price... in his limo! So, we took a nice limo from the airport, about a 30 minute drive into the capitol city. We played some awesome tunes by George Clinton, and more by Peter Tosh, and asked our driver to tour us around the main sights on the way to the hotel.
It had rained all day, and was just beginning to stop. The rain let up, and we could open up the sunroof, to poke our heads out and get an incredible view of Capitol Hill, Washington Monument, and many other buildings along the National Mall. Of course, with all the security, and fences, and it being dark, we could only imagine that we saw the White House. Oh sure, it's over there somewhere...
Due to some cryptic street planning, where 17th zigs a bit around a square park, and also confusing due to the NW versus SW sections, one way the wrong way, construction, etc, our driver had a difficult time finding our destination, thus an additional 20 minutes driving around downtown in circles. But hey, what do we care? we're enjoying the limo ride :)
Finally, we checkin to the Club Quarters, settle into our room, then head out to find dinner. Upon the recommendation of the hotel staff, we walked a few blocks to McCormick's. We ate a very fine meal of fresh fish and vegetables, and well mixed drinks from the bar.
