Birthing Day
a time line of Rose's birth
10pm Sun Jan 27 - just put Jasper down for bed and noticed slight contractions forming
11pm - contractions continued
12am - decided this was early labor, call Amy (our friend to assist with birth) give her early warning and get advice
1am Mon Jan 28 - called my mom to come over to watch Jasper... we're definitely having this baby soon
2am - mom arrives
3:12am Mon Jan 28 - stronger contractions, but slower in frequency. decide to lay down to rest a bit
4:20am - wake up to very strong contraction, wake Jim to call the hospital. talk with nurse about the labor progression
5:30am - arrive at hospital, they have lots of questions and things to monitor and diagnose my stage in labor. Amy arrives shortly after, whew! extra hands for my back and legs. The nurse leaves the admittance room to check on our main room and other patients. She returns about 20 minutes later, I've gone from 4.5cm to 8cm!!! Time to deliver this baby in the exam room, no time to transfer to another bed.
6:55am - Margann Mentor, CNM arrives (same midwife who delivered Jasper).
7:04am Mon Jan 28 - Rose is born!!!
They place Rose on my belly, she's all gooey, I can feel the cord it's hard and strong. Then she is placed up closer to my chest and neck, we have a moment to bond and rest. Amy cut the cord (Jim didn't want to). Then Margann showed us the placenta, the tree of life, the cord and the bag - very interesting to see (we missed that with Jasper due to the emergency vacuum assist).
7 pounds, 5 ounces, 20.5 inches long.
yeah, that was quick. I won't say painless :) but as far as birthing goes, it was pretty a-ok.
Jasper and Grandma come to visit around lunchtime. Jasper came with Daddy again around dinnertime, to visit with Grandma/pa too.
1pm Tues Jan 29 - leave the hospital to return home.
All is well, healthy and maintaining minimal sanity :)
