The Capitol and Air & Space
Our last full day here, and we'd better hurry up and see The Capitol and the Air & Space museum!!! We also saw the Library of Congress, which is magnificent, I'm glad we dashed in there on our way to the Capitol building.
The line to visit the Capitol was already booked that day... you need a tour pass. But... since we're US citizens, we just need a pass from our Representative. We went across the street to lookup Anna Eshoo's office. Then across the street to her office. Then back across the street to the House. Then we could go inside. Inside the main room where you've seen on TV, seemed a lot smaller than it looks on TV. Everyone is on a break, the house was not in session, so only a few tour groups were there viewing an empty floor. We could sit in the balcony seats.
Then we went to the Air and Space Museum. We had lunch there... Mc Donald's seems to be what's around all the museums! There were not any restaurants. The first day we had walked around searching for something, ended up at Mc Donald's = gross! Then at the museum they have another one! Oh well, we survived. There was other junk food to choose from to, but the point is that there was nothing very appetizing, really. The museum is great, but the food sucks!
First we took our time at the Wright Brothers exhibit. The presentation is marvelous. Then we saw lots of the rest of the cool airplanes. Jim toured more airplane history, wartime, etc, while Gretel went to the 20 minute Planetarium showing. Einstein Planetarium, is the state of the art! Lots of awesome images from the Hubble Space Telescope are displayed across the dome, and stars and galaxies... you get to sort of fly through space on a journey.
